DEVA Now Detects Invalid Emails Based on Submitter’s IP Address

Today we’re excited to announce a major upgrade to our email‑validation service: the Dilli Email Validation API (DEVA) can now mark email addresses as invalid based on the reputation of the IP address of the user submitting the email.

Why this matters

When you’re accepting email addresses – for newsletter sign‑ups, lead‑forms, account registrations, etc. – you often face two big issues:

  • Fake or mistyped email addresses reduce deliverability and hurt engagement.
  • Malicious actors use valid‑looking addresses from abusive IP addresses to game your system.

Until now, DEVA has given you best‑in‑class checks for email format, domain MX records, disposable addresses, known spam addresses, role‑based addresses (optional) and more. (Dilli Email Validation API)

Now we’re layering on an IP reputation check so that even if the email syntax and domain look fine, the form submission can be flagged or blocked if the submitting IP has a history of abuse.

How it works

  1. A user enters their email address in your form.
  2. Alongside validation of the email itself (format, domain, spam‑list, etc.), DEVA now accepts the IP address of the submitting user.
  3. This IP is checked via our companion service Dilli IP Validation API (DIVA), which maintains a curated list of IPs known to mount spam or cyber‑attacks (sourced from third‑party intelligence such as StopForumSpam, AbuseIPDB and others). (Dilli Labs)
  4. If the IP is flagged as suspicious/abusive, DEVA will mark the associated email address submission as invalid (or apply whatever action you’ve configured).
  5. If the IP is clean, DEVA continues to validate the email address using our usual resilient checks.

What’s changed in DEVA

Here’s what’s new with this update:

  • IP‑Reputation Check: Submissions from IPs with known malicious activity will trigger invalidation of the associated email address.
  • Better Lead‑Quality Assurance: For lead‑generation, sign‑ups, or other high‑value email capture forms, you now have an added layer of protection against “bad data” originating from compromised or abusive networks.
  • Seamless Integrations: If you’re using our WordPress plugin or our API directly, the upgrade is backward‑compatible — you just pass the IP parameter and DEVA handles the rest.
  • No Extra Cost for Existing Users: This new capability is included in your DEVA subscription, so you can enable it immediately.

How to enable it

Here’s a quick step‑by‑step if you already use DEVA:

  1. Log in to your DEVA dashboard and generate or note your API key.
  2. In your form submission logic, capture the user’s IP address.
  3. When making the DEVA API request, you now include the IP address as an additional parameterip. GET https://deva.dillilabs.com/api/{API_KEY}/email/{EMAIL_ADDRESS}?ip={IP_ADDRESS}
  4. If you are using Dilli Email Validator WordPress plugin, the integration is seamless. Simply check mark “Validate IP” option in the plugin setttings and hit Save.

What this means for you

  • Higher quality email lists — fewer fake or spam‑driven email captures
  • Better deliverability — fewer bounces & spam complaints by blocking bad addresses at input
  • Reduced risk — forms are a common attack vector; abused IPs can inflate costs or damage brand reputation
  • Peace of mind — you’re not just verifying emails, you’re verifying the network behind them
